GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - A new Michigan company wants to help save water and money by changing the way you flush the toilet.

SelectAFlush unveiled its product this morning. The plastic flush valve is installed into an existing toilet. It allows you to choose between a full flush and a rinse flush that only uses half the water.

The company got started when uncle and nephew John and David Bauer started sketching their ideas on a napkin.

John Bauer has 30 years of business experience in West Michigan, and knew it could be made right here. He explains, “There was so much adequate, underutilized capacity that there was no sense in recreating the wheel when this absolute terrific brain trust of engineers and designers were waiting for us to knock on their door. And thrilled to have us come.” So, the design and production work will be done by a variety of existing West Michigan companies.

This is the first product InnovationWorks, a program of The Right Place, helped bring to market.

You can order the Select a Flush on line right now, although there are already back orders. It will also be available at Habitat for Humanity Restores later this month.

The SelectAFlush costs about $39, which the inventors think you will make up in water cost savings in about a year. Start to Save water now
